We know how difficult it is to decide on hiring another individual to help your senior loved ones. To ease your worries, we offer waiver-based programs that allow family caregivers like you to obtain full-time employment while taking care of your loved one at home.
AMD Home Care is often asked by people caring for their loved ones whether they can be paid for the work they do and the answer is… yes they can.
Mostly, caregiving starts as a labor of love, but it can quickly grow into an expensive and time-consuming obligation. In these difficult times, caregivers like you are not only struggling with heavy financial responsibilities but are also trying to deal with the amount of time needed to take care of their loved ones.
Some states have waiver-based programs that help those in need of health and home care-related services by reimbursing the caregiver of their choice — and in many circumstances that reimbursement can be yourself or a family member receiving a salary or becoming employed through our Agency as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide. These programs — called variously, “consumer-directed,” “participant-directed,” “cash and counseling” or other titles — differ enormously depending on where you live. Luckily, the state of PA has two programs for the disabled and the elderly that will allow you to get paid to be a caregiver for your loved one.
The first program is for people ages 60 and over and is for those who require in-home assistance, personal care, and other home-based services. This is called a New Aging Waiver program.
The second program is for people aged 18-59 and is for those eligible to deal with a wide array of maladies and disabilities. This is called a Home and Community Based Waiver (HCBS) and is administered by the Pennsylvania Office of Long-Term Living (OLTL).
